North Oldham junior, Will Tarvestad, won the state championship in the 50 yard freestyle and became the first swimmer in the KHSAA Swimming and Diving Championship meet history to finish in less than 20 seconds, claiming the title in 19.94, sealing All-American honors. Tarvestad was the only swimmer from a public school to win a state title in the swimming events at the state championship. Tarvestad narrowly missed winning another state championship in the 100 yard freestyle championship. He finished as the state runner-up in the 100 yard freestyle .17 seconds behind the state champion. This is Tarvestad’s second state title winning the 50 yard freestyle in 2016, as a freshman.
