The North Oldham boys’ basketball team played Tuesday night against Oldham County in the District 29 tournament opening game at South Oldham HS. Oldham County, which started the game with a 13-2 lead, held on down the stretch to beat the Mustangs 59-53. The game ended the season for North Oldham with a record of 13-18 and the high school careers for four senior players: Grant Adelson, who missed last 6 games due to a broken foot; Will Hare, Layne McIntosh and Jack Smith.
The Mustangs battled back from the early deficit to start the game and trailed only by six points after the 1st quarter, 16-10. The second quarter was back and forth with North Oldham trailing at the break 28-23. North outscored the Colonels in the 3rdquarter by two points to trail 41-38 after three periods. The game was ultimately decided down the stretch at the free throw line and Oldham County pulled away to win by the six-point margin.
The Mustangs did have three players in double figures with Dallas Roberts scoring 16 points (3/14 fgs; 8/8 FTs). Tyler Higdon with a terrific all-around game including 14 points (5/10 fgs; 4/5 FTs), a team high 10 rebounds and 3 assists. Will Hare also had a nice game with 12 points (6/12 fgs), 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Rounding out the scoring for the Mustangs were Thomas Ashton 5; Layne McIntosh 4; and Jack Scales 2
