This year, Coach Betty-Jean Cobb returns to coaching the NOHS Girls Lacrosse team. It will be her 4th year as Head Coach. Before coaching at North, she was a volunteer coach for a middle school team for about 5 years. Coach Cobb started coaching for North her daughter’s senior year. “Her coach left at the end of her junior year season. I had put some feelers out across the lacrosse community to see if there was anyone out there that would like to coach for North. Unfortunately, neither Mr. Yanke nor myself could find anyone. So, at the last game of the season I was running the clock with former Coach Church. He said something like, ‘if you decide to coach, I will help.’ I spoke with Mr. Yanke and the dynamic duo was formed.” There is a big jump from coaching middle school to high school. When Coach Cobb first started coaching she was full of questions. She admits, “I had so many questions that year, Mr.Yanke limited me to three a day.”
This season Coach Cobb is helped out by Assistant Coach Tommy Thompson, Junior Varsity Coach Maggie Moore, and Team Coordinator Chris Thompson. Coach Cobb’s favorite memory from coaching is the 2016 Braveheart tournament. “The girls fought and went undefeated in the tournament. There were several tense moments in each game we played. It came down to the wire in every game. But the girls gave it all they had and came out as champions. We even lost a key defensive player to injury who didn’t get to finish the tournament. They earned their trophy!”
Good luck to Coach Cobb and the whole Girl’s Lacrosse team this season! Their first home game is March 12 against Atherton. Come out and cheer them on!
